Therapeutic Horseback Riding Journal

"If
it looks like rain; we’re not going!” Declared
Harold. Harold was thinking about last week’s experience.
Last week it seemed as if it was going to rain and the horses
started to act strange. Isaiah’s horse, Schnapps, rolled
on his side while Isaiah was still on him. Today, it’s
very humid, but the skies were fairly clear. When we arrived,
Isaiah immediately signed “all done!” We laughed
and reminded him that we just got there. Emily and a couple
of other volunteer sidewalkers all greeted Isaiah. They debated
who was going to sidewalk with Isaiah. Emily and another girl
were assigned. Because it was so humid, Isaiah rode without
saddle. They also shorted the session to only 20 minutes.
Isaiah used several words during his riding session including
“go” and “more.” He also constantly
signed colors and pointed out different objects in the surroundings
including airplanes that flew overhead, dragonflies and the
stable cat.
