Therapeutic Horseback Riding Journal
September 18, 2003
Today
Isaiah was again very tired when we arrived at Ready, Set,
Ride. He again resisted when we took him out of the car. However,
eventually he perked up and seemed to enjoy the horseback
riding session.
Harold
and I decided that after his 6-week basketball class ended,
we would not re-enroll Isaiah. I will try to find another
activity that meets on a different day. Currently his Thursday
are too exhausting for him.I think basketball is important
because it helps with his social skills as well as gross motor
skills and coordination. But Isaiah needs the horseback riding
as part of his speech therapy.
When
we got home, Isaiah went to his room and immediately started
to play with his Legos. A few minutes later he came to me
and started to say what sounded like, "L" over and
over again. I was not sure what he what he was trying to communicate.
Then I saw what he had in his hand: he had created a letter
"L" out of Legos! I was amazed! Isaiah amazes me
almost daily with his knowledge of letters, numbers, shapes,
words, etc. Last week we went out to dinner. Isaiah was drawing
on the kids' menu. I asked him to write the letter "I".
I had never asked him to do that before. To my amazement he
wrote an almost perfect capital letter 'I". He also wrote
the letters P, S and T.
Isaiah
may have a long way to go with speech, but cognitively he
is way ahead of the game. I am so proud of him!
