Isaiah's World: Speech Therapy and Beyond

You are my best friend!

January 10, 2006

One of the wonderful things about Isaiah now being to talk so well is that he is able to express his feelings. Today Harold, Isaiah and I were sitting in the living room. Isaiah was playing, Harold and I were chatting. All of the sudden, Isaiah stood in front of me, gave me a big hug and said, "You are my best friend!" I practically cried. It was such a sweet thing to say. I am glad that Isaiah is at the stage when he is willing, and now able, to say that to me. I know there will come a time when he will not want to hug me, kiss me, or hold my hand.

But today, I am his best friend.

I am very happy with my relationship with Isaiah. Like all kids, he can be a challenge sometimes. But I like being around him. Isaiah and I spend a lot of time together. I enjoy taking him with me on errands. I like taking walks with him. When it is warm, I enjoy going bike riding, or accompanying him when he rollerskates or rides his scooter. I like playing board games with him, putting puzzles together with him. I also enjoy it when he snuggles up against me and falls asleep.

So, I am going to enjoy our time now, when he still readily admits that he likes me. When he calls me his "best friend."
