Isaiah's World

Saying Grace

December 28, 2005

Since Isaiah was about 4 years old it has been his responsibility to bless the food at the table. We first taught him, "Good is Great, God is Good; and we thank Him for our Food. Amen."

Now that he is five, we talked to him about being giving some thought to how blessed we are for having food to eat and for the other wonderful things in our lives. He told him to start his prayer by saying, " Dear God, thank you for...."
Typically he would thank God for each type of food we were having, "Dear God, thank you for my spaghetti, by sauce, and my milk." He always ends his prayers by pronouncing "Amen" 2 different ways: "A-men", "Aw-men."

This evening we sat down for dinner and Isaiah started saying grace: "Dear God, thank you for (listed each food)." He then decided to thank God for some of this toys, "Thank you for my Lincoln Logs, my Legos, my Ulysses, my crayons, my notebook, my Leapster, my television..." He went on and on, for about listing toy after toy. Harold, my mother, Trina and I were trying our best not to laugh. Finally, I had to interrupt him and say, "A-men, Aw-men."
