Isaiah's World:

Seeing Charyn Again

June 24, 2006

After providing occupational therapy to Isaiah for over 2 years, in 2004 Charyn got married and moved about an hour away. She no longer was able to see Isaiah. Isaiah absolutely adores Charyn. Charyn was not only a gifted therapist, she was always extremely patient and nice to Isaiah.

For the last 2 years, every now and then, Isaiah asked about Charyn. Finally a few weeks ago I decided to email Charyn to try to get together with her. After she moved, we kept in touch for a while. She indicated that she would be willing to baby-sit Isaiah occasionally. I hoped that even after so much time had passed, she was still interested seeing Isaiah.

Charyn was happy to hear from from me and agreed to meet us at Morton Arboretum. This was so generous of her because Morton Arboretum was about hour from her house. And, she was also very busy in graduate school.

When we arrived at the Arboretum and saw Charyn, Isaiah was a little shy. Then he gave her a big hug. Charyn was impressed by how much Isaiah had changed. He is now a lot taller, and he speaks very well. He also is a lot more calm.

After eating lunch, we spent most of the rest of the time in the Children's Garden. The Children's Garden has many different things for children to see and do, including a pond where hundreds of tadpoles recently hatched. Harold and I sat down while Isaiah and Charyn ran around together.

Isaiah was a little sad when we left. He definitely wanted to see Charyn again. We plan to get together again in a few months.
