Review of Africa Dream
by Caleb Powell (with a little help from Mommy and
Daddy)
Africa
Dream, by Eloise Greenfield, is about a girl who dreams she takes
a big jump across the ocean and lands in "long-ago Africa."
She dreams she does a lot of things in Africa -- like shopping for
pearls and perfume at the marketplace and reading old books with strange
words that she can understand.
Later in the dream, she ends up seeing her "long-ago granddaddy."
She says he has her daddy's face. Then she dreams she meets more of
her family. She dances to African drums that her uncles play and she
walks with her cousins all over Africa. At the end of the book she
dreams she turns into a baby and gets rocked to sleep by her "long-ago
grandma" -- who has her mother's face!
My favorite part of the book is when the girl dreams she is standing
against really tall stone buildings -- it's fun imagining to climb
those buildings since I love to climb so much. I also like when the
girl gets rocked to sleep by her grandmother -- it helped me to fall
asleep. This is a fun
bedtime book.
and for more fun...
Some things you can do after reading this book are:
~ Go to sleep and see if you have a dream.
~ Pretend you are the person dreaming in the book and make up your
own
dream.
~ Trace a map of Africa.
~ Write the word A-F-R-I-C-A.
~ Look for Africa on a map of the world.
Caleb is a 6-year-old kindergartner who loves
to collect and build Bionicles, count money, and play "Monopoly

to play outside with his friends. His mom, who is his number-one soccer
fan, says that he is doing great in sports and school!
