Review of Bark, George
by Caleb Powell (with a little help from Mommy and
Daddy)
Bark,
George, by Jules Fieffer, is about a dog, George, who cannot bark,
so George's mother takes him to the vet to find out what's wrong.
The vet says, "I'll soon get to the bottom of this" and
then pulls a cat out of the dog -- that's why George had been saying
"Meow" instead of "Arf." The vet pulls out other
animals, too, until George can finally bark.
On the way home, George's mother is so proud that her dog can say
"Arf"
that she tells him to bark for the people they pass on street. But,
just like in the beginning of the book, George won't bark again. You'll
never guess what he says this time.
Bark,
George is one of my favorite books. It is really, really funny.
I took it to school and read it to my teacher. She laughed, too! Mommy
says I've loved Bark,
George since I was about 2 years old and I'm 6 years old now.
I laugh every time we read it -- especially the part when the vet
has to dig so deep inside of George and pulls out a cow. Wow!
and for more fun...
Some fun things you can do with your parents after reading Bark,
George!
~ Make the sounds of the animals that were pulled out of George.
~ Draw a picture of George.
~ Count how many dogs you see in your neighborhood.
~ Pat a pet!
Caleb is a 6-year-old kindergartner who loves to
