Review of Hooray For Grandparents' Day!

by Caleb Powell (with a little help from Mommy and Daddy)

.
In Hooray For Grandparents' Day! everyone at a school is getting ready for Grandparents' Day -- except for Arnie because he doesn't have any grandparents to bring to school.

He tries to get his neighbors to be his grandparents for one whole day, but when he goes to invite them, they were climbing Mt. Fuji and wouldn't be back until two weeks. Arnie thinks all day and all night about who will be his grandparents, but the next day he still doesn't have anyone to bring to school for Grandparents' Day. Then, when he goes to his school he's real sad. When he walks into his class, all of his friends have their grandparents with them and they wonder why he doesn't have a grandparent with him. But, Arnie ends up with a big surprise. Guess who showed up for him?

My favorite part of the book is at the end when Arnie ends up with grandparents at school for Grandparents' Day, because it makes him so happy. My mom asked me why I think grandparents are special. I said, "Grandparents are special because they are the ones that raised parents. We wouldn't have moms and dads if we didn't have grandparents."

What children can do for Grandparents' Day!
Arnie made an invitation for his neighbors in Hooray For Grandparents' Day! Ask your parents to help you make a Grandparents' Day card that says, "Grandparents, you are the best!" If you do not have any grandparents, you can make one for a grownup that is special to you.

Caleb is a 6-year-old kindergartner who loves to collect and build Bionicles, count money, and play "Monopoly Junior". He enjoys the outdoors and welcomes every opportunity to play outside with his friends. His mom, who is his number-one soccer fan, says that he is doing great in sports and school!
