CelebratingChildren.com Offers New Family Finance Column written by Attorney and CPA Shannon Nash

Aurora, IL, March 8, 2004 – Stacey Montgomery, founder and publisher of CelebratingChildren.com, the premier African American parenting website, announces a new column, "Family Finance" written by Shannon Nash an attorney and Certified Public Accountant. Shannon will provide practical finance information directed to African American families. In addition, Shannon will answer reader family finance questions submitted to her through the “Ask the Expert” segment of CelebratingChildren.com.

Shannon states, "I want to make finance fun for people. There's nothing worse than reading a dry finance or tax article. I try to take everyday occurrences, whether in the form of song, TV shows, movies, or popular current events, and link them into practical finance topics along with helpful tips and resources for additional information."

The introductory article, "Top 10 Financial Tips for African-Americans, Part 1- Tips 1-5," is the first of 2-parts that will give guidance on common financial traps that families fall into. The article uses lyrics to popular R&B and hip hop songs to help focus the readers’ attention on the issues. The article then provides detailed tips and resources on how to avoid and change them.

The column will serve up a lot of technical information but "with a lot of humor" and "practical steps," Shannon adds.

Shannon joins Rick Badie (Fatherhood), Penny Powell (Stay-at-Home Motherhood), and Angela Scott (Solo Parenting), who write columns for CelebratingChildren.com. She also writes the Special Needs column for CelebratingChildren.com.

Shannon is the author of Helping The Nonprofit Client, Klienrock Publishing 2004 and The Vault Guide to Tax Law Careers, Vault Inc. 2004. She has also written numerous tax and finance articles and is a frequent speaker on these issues. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce and the University of Virginia School of Law. Shannon is currently co-writing a book on tax advice for African-Americans. She is a wife and mother of 2 young sons.

Stacey Montgomery launched CelebratingChildren.com in February 2000. Stacey Montgomery, a graduate of Columbia University and Boston University School of Law, has a background in legal and technical writing. She also created a line of greeting cards and invitations featuring Black children that are offered through StaceyMDesign.com and offline retail stores. Her first book, Black Families Online: Directory of Online Resources for Black Parents, was published last year. Stacey is a devoted wife and mother of 4-year-old Isaiah.
