CelebratingChildren.com Offers New Column “Parenting Solo” that Speaks to African American Single Mothers

Aurora, IL, March 8, 2004
CelebratingChildren.com, an African American parenting Web site, announces a new column, Parenting Solo, written by professional writer and single mother of two, Angela D. Scott of Los Angeles, CA. In Parenting Solo, Angela shares her journey of balancing parenting duties, work and downtime activities, while keeping up with her two daughters, Shani (7) and Samara (4). Parenting Solo will take you inside the home, mind, heart and soul of this working single mom who has found the role as a single parent to be a rewarding mix of blessings and blues. “It’s an incredible blessing that calls for supernatural resources,” she says. Parenting Solo focuses on an important segment of the African American community and allows CelebratingChildren.com to reach in a more personal way millions of African American families.

When asked about her thoughts on Parenting Solo Angela had the following to say:

"I'm thankful to have an opportunity to let other single parents know that I, too, face moments of doubt, chaos, stress and bliss. Parenting Solo is a platform where single parenting techniques, ideas and expert advice are offered through spirited articles. It's my hope that Parenting Solo is a "go-to" resource for black single parents looking to make their job a little easier."

People become single parents due to many different circumstances, including death, divorce, abandonment, or decision to have or adopt a child without being married or in a committed relationship. Whatever the reason, single parenting often brings with it a set of concerns that are not always present where there are 2 parents in the household.

CelebratingChildren.com provides articles that explore a wide array of topics including education, special needs, children's literature, health and development and family finance. The articles supplement traditional parenting resources by examining topics that are often overlooked but are of great interest to African American families.

Stacey Montgomery launched CelebratingChildren.com in February 2000. Stacey Montgomery, a graduate of Columbia University and Boston University School of Law, is the author of Black Families Online: Directory of Online Resources for Black Parents, (iUniverse, Inc., July 2003). The column, "An Exceptional Journey," targets families and caregivers of children with special needs. In addition Stacey also created a line of greeting cards and invitations that are offered through her design company, Stacey M Design (www.staceymdesign.com).
