Writer's Guidelines

Based in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, CelebratingChildren.com, the premier African American parenting website, offers articles, books, tips, cards and gifts primarily for African American families with children ages 0-10. CelebratingChildren.com provides articles that explore a wide array of topics including children's literature, education, music and family finance.

Queries should describe the content, structure, and tone of the proposed article. Please be as specific as possible about what makes your idea unique and your qualifications to write it. With each query, please enclose two or three relevant clips for our review. Unless otherwise indicated, articles are scheduled and assigned at least 3-5 months in advance of their publication date. We generally respond to queries fairly quickly- 1-2 weeks.

CHANNELS
We publish features on many different topics of interest to African American families with young children. Our readers enjoy articles about topics, products and events that are of particular interest to African American families, such as children's books or products written or created by African Americans. We also publish articles on general parenting topics that feature opinions and expertise of African Americans. All articles should include expert advice, real-parent examples, or other supporting information. As our goal is to "celebrate" children, moms, dads and families, we only publish positive articles. If the topic of an article is a problem such as a family struggle, a developmental disorder, etc., the article should focus on the solution. Currently, we accept freelance articles for the following channels: Celebrations, Children's Literature, Music and Video, Education, Family Finance, Fatherhood, Grandparenting, Health and Development, Pamper You and Parenting-General.

Current Needs. We will review all queries that fit the above-mentioned criteria. However, currently, we are particularly in need of articles for the following Channels: Celebrations, Education, Family Finance, Grandparenting, and Health and Development.

Length: 600-800 words.
